"You are Good"

You are Good

As I sat in church this last week singing a song I have sung many times before, the words hit a new chord within me.

   “You are good, you are good, when there’s nothing good in me”  How true is that?! We do not like to think of ourselves that way, but NOTHING is good. Yet:

   “You are love, you are love, on display for all to see”  No more true than after seeing his amazing creation, and the most stars that Kristy and the kids have ever seen, and I since Southern Sudan days while with friends in Karamoja.

   “You are light, you are light, when the darkness closes in”  As an ICU doc, I have seen some darkness close in, and yet He is light! Being able to share with a mom about this amazing gift that God has given her, as she watches her baby after open heart surgery in Germany, and then them returning safely back to Kampala this week, wonderful!

   “You are hope, You are hope, You have covered all my sin” ALL and MY, wow!!!

   “ You are peace, You are peace, when MY fear is crippling” yet, “you are true, you are true, even in my wandering”  thus “You are joy, You are joy, You’re the reason that I sing, You are life, You are life, in YOU death has lost its sting” no only for us, but for our patients as we watch their fear, then joy as they run into the Father’s arms!

   “Oh, I’m running to Your arms, I’m running to Your arms, the riches of Your love, WILL always be enough” WOW, will always, not matter what. As we read of all of our class of Post Residents making their way to the field this month, we pray this for them, that no matter what, fear, wandering, etc, that they will run, as He is always enough!! AS “nothing compares to Your embrace, Light of the world forever reign.” Nothing compares!

   “You are more, You are more than my words will ever say” our words are so inadequate.

   “ You are Lord, You are Lord, all creation will proclaim, AND You are here, You are here” no matter what country we are in, how far we are away from “home” or what is going on “YOU ARE HERE!”

   SO “In your presence I’m made whole” all of our inadequacies, our failures, our fears in doctoring, parenting, marriage, everything made WHOLE in HIM!!

   Because “You are God, You are God, of ALL else I’m letting go” we have let go of so much as a Post Resident class, not to mention those that have gone before, and will come after us, and yet it is all worth it, and we will gain so much here and beyond, as we are made whole in Him, and as we run into His Arms.

   “My heart will sing no other name, Jesus, Jesus!”
   So my prayer for all of us on the field, going to the field soon, or just returned, wherever we are in this journey, is that we will run to only Him, and thus be made whole in Him, and that no matter what happens in these 2 years that we will sing no other name except Jesus, Jesus!!!
